Today, I'm excited to announce an exciting update to your app: the CBT/Narrative Therapy-Based Journaling feature. This new tool is designed to guide users through a more meaningful and structured journaling process, helping you uncover deeper insights and develop effective coping strategies.
Why We Introduced This Feature
Journaling has long been a core component of traditional therapy, providing a private space for individuals to explore their thoughts and emotions. However, many people struggle to use this tool effectively on their own. They might write vague entries or lack the guidance to delve deeper into their feelings. Recognising this challenge, we wanted to create a more convenient and scientifically grounded way for our users to engage in journaling.
With the introduction of our CBT/Narrative Therapy-Based Journaling feature, we aim to make journaling more accessible, detailed, and impactful. By integrating principles from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and narrative therapy, this feature provides a structured approach that helps users think harder and more thoroughly about their situations.
The Importance of Detailed Journaling
Traditional journaling can sometimes lead to entries that are too general to provide real insights. For example, writing "I feel bad" doesn't offer much clarity or direction for improvement. Our new feature encourages users to capture specific thoughts and emotions. Instead of "I feel bad," you might write, "I felt anxious during the meeting today because I was worried I might not meet the deadlines." This level of detail allows for a more accurate analysis of your mental state.
How It Works
1. Starting the Entry: Begin by writing or speaking your first journal entry. Aim to be as specific as possible about your thoughts and feelings.
2. AI-Driven Exploratory Questions: Once your entry is submitted, empaithy analyses it and generates two to three tailored, exploratory questions. These questions help you delve deeper into your emotions and thoughts. For instance, if you mentioned feeling anxious about deadlines, you might be asked:
- "What specific aspects of the deadlines are causing you the most concern?"
- "What steps could you take to make progress on your deadlines?"
- "How might you reframe your thoughts about potentially missing a deadline?"
3. Branching Questions: Each response you provide leads to more exploratory questions, repeating this process three times. This iterative approach ensures a thorough exploration of your thoughts and feelings.
4. Calming Conclusion: After completing the questions, empaithy provides a calming response to help you gain mental clarity and feel more at ease.
